How to know you bought a 2008 Chevy product

Mini rant after the jump.

Kinja'd!!!

It’s really quite simple, all you have to do is turn on the car and the driver info centre reassures you that yes you are in fact a fucking idiot for buying a mid-bankruptcy, bean counter special, 2008 I’m-made-of-plastic Chevrolet.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Oh and the passenger headlight literally never works. Ever. Nighttime driving was so fun this weekend.

You know how rust usually forms after paint chips occur? Well this one forms rust underneath the paint which you find out after a piece of it randomly falls off. The bowtie on the rear hatch has decided it doesn’t want to live there anymore, the turn signals work properly only when they feel up to the task.

The interior is made of cardboard and Tupperware. NVH is cranked up to the max, and the transmission likes to shift to 5th gear as fast as it possibly can.

This was a very sad time for General Motors indeed. They’re lucky I’m so loyal to them because I gave up on them for a couple years.

I just want my Yukon back..

As a younger person, I don’t remember a time when GM (and American cars in general) weren’t complete shit, it’ll take a long time before I warm up to them for good. Our family had a 2002 Suburban for a while, that thing was a rolling pile of squeaks and rattles. And everything was broken by 50k miles.

Their only current car I’m “meh” about is the Cruze, although it does have a diesel.

Their current lineup isn’t bad, it’s not perfect but I’d still say their cars are good.

My Yukon has never had a problem that can be blamed on GM itself. Though I’m not sure if you consider 2003 to be modern, I like to think it is.

The Cruze is also the replacement for the Cobalt meaning it didn't have high standards to live up to. I believe it's the oldest in the current lineup as well.0

Weird. My ‘03 Yukon is literally the exact same thing as the Suburban and I've had not one issue with it other than normal wear and tear.

I know! I’m just making an awesome statement and remembering my old Saturn. ;)

Rebadged Opels are much better than the similar GM contemporaries of the time; even Ford’s!

I will have to...Ford is my favorite of all right now. They’re killing it right now. I want a GT350 badly, in fact. GM is still playing catchup, Chrysler is....well...

It’s a crapshoot really. The majority of their cars will be just fine for their entire life. People get hung up on ‘reliability’ and what some magazine might say won’t break. It’s all random.

I dd an 09 Silverado by the way, and currently it is in a three car garage with two other Chevrolets. I'm not a complete fanboy but I will stand up for GM's products.

Interesting. Ours was just a rolling liability. It rusted badly underneath, the transfer case and 480LE both ate themselves despite never being abused. The engine was rock solid, I must say. The electronics were hopeless though. Never worked properly the entire time.

Ford circa 2005 was pretty good. Mustang, GT, F-150, SVT focus, Ranger, P71, E-series! I would happily drive any of the above products.

Well they did receive a lot of updates for 2003 so maybe that could be the difference. Mines AWD so it has a completely different system and the transmission is never problematic so far.

As for your above statement about GM playing catch-up, Ford may have some better products in your eyes but GM still outsells the shit out of them.

The problem is that GM cars were completely bulletproof until the 90s rolled around and they started introducing a whole bunch of new technology features. 9/10 those are the things that fail in modern GM cars.

I wouldn't call myself a complete fanboy, I call them out on things all the time but I do favour them.

Sales doesn’t equate to quality or desirability: McDonald’s, apple, Toyota, Coors/Miller, Macy's, Coca-Cola, any major media company, Papa John's, etc.

I’ve driven all of those, and while they’re much improved over prior GM offerings, they’re still not up to snuff if other OEMs, including domestic brands.
